Phishing…

Few minutes back i got a msg from incomtax dept that i have refund of 30K. The From address was: refunds_prt0@incometaxindiafiling.gov.in. At first i was happy to see refund.. but then got doubt.. why would they do? atleast I cant believe that our govt really does work proactively. I got doubt and checked the further details on my gmail; checked the via link. Now I understood its fraud site.

image

i clicked onthe link provided on the email.. it displayed options from where took me to my standard charted bank.

image

Look at the address bar. its from some private ip. WOW! what an idea to do phishing! So they are actually proxying my bank details via their servers. If i enter my onlink bank details.. they intercept the data and get hold of my online details.

A novice user would definitely fall into the trap; so i wanted to alert pple on it. I went to my gmail and marked the mail as phishing.

hope this helps somebody…

OMG Uti MF: i suspect the security of the site

I invest in UTI MF. Today i forgot my password and tried with forgot password on the website… it sent me my password in clear text. This shows that they might have stored the pwd in clear text/ encrypted form in the back end which are both wrong.. remember few days back Microsoft online store was hacked and the userid and pwd of millions of users was compromised..

well done!!!

Few days back my brother came home late.. when esquired he told that he was stopped by the traffic police and was fined 300 Rs. I asked him and he told the conversation btw him and the police..

Traffic police: U get the fine of 300 Rs or u can give me 100Rs and leave
Bro: I will pay 300Rs; please prepare the chalan
Police: u work for software company?
bro: Yes
Police: You software pple have toomuch of money... and dont know its value!!!

To this i was agitaged... and said "u should have said its none of ur business; prepare the chalan and thats it!" to which my brother said: "yes i could have.. but u see they are police... and he can book u in some stupid case which will take years to resolve. Why take conflict with him! so i said yes and silently paid the amount and came off!!!"

His interpretation is: "we shouldnt be taking short cuts; its very incorrect to bribe them!" to this i added "very correct;  on one hand we have pple like Anna Hazare who is on fast to stand against corruption; atleast for them we shouldnt be bribing these pple"

I remember a similar incident at Sanath nagar; It was the first day to office and i was going by my new bike. Suddenly the police stopped me. I was terrified.. I told its quite new; just 1 week old and so i cannot produce RC. That guy didnt listen; all he was telling is produce RC or pay chalan. Having no options i agreed for the chalaan... he took my llicense as surity and wrote that i didnt get my license and so am fined 300Rs. Behind the bill it was written as 100Rs if RC wasnt produced. I was agitated.. and shouted in anger at him "how can u write that my license is not there when u took it and kept in ur pockt?" By then a good amount of crowd had gathered and he silently took back the chalan and wrote the proper one. A week later i went to the police dept and payed the fine.

Time to let go things...

"You need not speak; ur work does it. Your work speaks!" I often remember this quotation from one of the managers of my early employers.

Its so difficult to let go friends; but u stand helpless 'cos things are not in ur control. Its my firm belief that: people don't say, they do. Its for us to interpret their intension seeing their work.

I had 2 very close frnds; one since BTech the other since MTech. I dont know what happened to the former.. like an aids patient he keeps himself away from us.. with a great difficulty i reached him on phone couple of times.. but some how felt like he is happy in his own world. Now the 2nd one; i dont know what happened to him... even he is gone in-different. huh!

As one of my previous posts read..'Some of us think holding on makes us strong, but sometimes it is letting go...There's no point in living with 'baggage'... There are some situations you just can't help. Accept it and go forward. Understand that sometimes you have to live with some emptiness inside you''

See my own posts are helping me :D
Adios...

Firing season started....

I am quite un-happy with what is happening with my previous employer; its not like they are going through some financial crunch that they take such bad decisions, but more towards the attitude and in-efficiancy of the management.

From one corner they boast they are employee friendly but on the other side, for what ever reason, they simply fire pple. See the irony and in-efficiency in planning by the management: This company is going through merger and the process was initiated an year back; so at very first it self they knew there could be redundancy in head count/ roles yet they went on hiring pple like any thing... we were wondering whats happening.. news were around that we are expanding and the company is scaling to meet its future needs. Now that the merger is coming to an end they are aggressively cutting off pple; more importantly this is happening informally! let me explain: The roles are getting re-shuffled and as a result except for the few guys; all others are told abt their new role and position; i.e.. indirectly telling these few pple that they are on the edge of being fired. The more cruel part is the management hasnt officially told these guys the sad news; instead they are trying to run the company assuming these redundant guys are already fired.. and see if they can survive with it; may be they will inform them of their ill fate later.. One one side i see intelligence in planning on the other side its cruelty.

When i joined that company for many it was a dream place; but now.. no more! This principle of hire and fire is very bad towards the employee.. almost every year i see one round of firing happening... this time the big shots are the one with whom i worked in my past; and believe me they are not really bad to be fired. Its very disturbing to digest the reality; i cant do anything except to feel sorry, have a disturbed mind and get reminded that we are travelling in a Titanic ship which can give in to the ocean any time; some times because recession hit us; while some time because the ship is over loaded (but who asked u to over load? and why is this one always breaking down every year for every small ice berg in the ocean?)

Anna Hazare: i want to be with u but....

Last week Anna Hazare was on news for the fast he adopted against the govt regarding the lok pal bill. Many supported it; netegens flooded appreciations / support; indians from china/ africa/ US etc etc fasted for a day to show their support. I felt like.. Wow! how nice! But was guilty to stand by him 'cos i remember how honest i am to the govt.

I remember taking shortcuts; producing wrong bills to escape tax; sometimes against compulsion (eg: traffic police) and some times to save money; what ever be it i had the guilty feeling when i did them but went doing.... 'cos if otherwise it may become the pain point...  'cos my frnds are doing it

Would i change? May be! I want to at-least.. though it takes a lot of effort from my side to doit. Few minutes back i saw images on FB telling Mera neta choor hai! But i think even i m a choor.

pity firefox

Firefox was/ is my fav browser. I was using it extensively 2 years after google chrome was introduced and wanted to stick to it. I love the addons -delicious/ diigo. However when my company changed something on proxy i was smoked out of firefox due to its weird certificate issue. Every time it asks u and how manyever times u permanantly add the cert it only adds it temporarily. HUH! every day morning i used to manually permanantly add them and after 6 months of this mundane rediculous exercise i moved out to google chrome.

I keep track of new releases in FF; and keep checking if the above issue was fixed. Today i got the latest one 4.0 (not beta version); now delicious doesnt work; googled and googled and then got it working in compatibility mode; now i dont see book marks; 15 min of browsing and i see some weird issues with webpages; certificate issue is, however, still there ( i dont know who the idiot had coded to make the permanatly add cert as temporary and how firefox still keeps the bug unfixed)

I think Firefox is heading towards death. Heard that google pulled off from funding it. What ever be it.. i am deeply sorry for whats happening to it.

Karma raa Babu.....

Its very bad/ undigestable of TLeaders for breaking the sculptures of Nannayya, Tikkanna, Yarrapragada, Srikrisha devaraya, Molla. What do they want to convey by this?

* * *

Sir Arthur Koton built 'Prakasam Barriage' on river Godavari saving the place from famine/ floods. Pple out there even today praise him (infact have his name in daily pooja -Sandhya vandanam). They recognize his helping hand and dont hate him as the British Monarch.

* * *

These great pple have given an image to India;Ramayana and Mahabharatha are still the top epics of the world and are known for their skill; they have given identity to Telugu pple. Shouldnt we respect them? How far is it correct to see them as Lords who plunder Telengana assets?

I was concerned till today of the TMoment and some where had a soft corner.... But now i feel 'its better give off the state... or else what else will we have to see down the time?' I am ashamed & embarrassed!!!

Update:: Asked to comment on police failure to save the statues, DGP K Aravinda Rao said: "We did not want to use force as it could have aggravated the situation."

The art of celebration

I have just come form a party: one of my old colleagues has his little kid turn 1 year old today and hence the occasion.

Atfirst, before starting off from home, i thought it would be more like a get together at his home and we exchange few words/ comments followed by dinner; but to my astonishment it turned out to be something else: they had this party in the communities auditorium hall, had abt 150 guests invited and it went on a grand scale; I was impressed by the amount of thought that went into it and its meticulous implementation. If  i were him, it wouldnt have been this impressive/ absorbing/ captivating/ enthusiastic.

Having said it its worth speaking a few words abt this guy: he went through a serious financial crunch an year back... though quite stable now... if i were him then i wouldnt even have dared to think of party.. forget organizing and enjoying it...

Most of the times we (to be more accurate I) are of the type... "if at all only i get that then i will be happy; if only i am able to achieve it i will celebrate/ be happy..." but here is the guy who is celebrating with what ever little he has... as some one said "The happiest people donot get the best things,  they just make best of every thing that comes their way"

This was quite a learning to me today, I was quite impressed.

Mahaa Siva Rathri :: better give holiday!

Yesterday was Mahasivaratri. I surveyed and found only one person (out of 8) is fasting and keeping awake all the night. Today i see the cubilles empty :D and i am the first guy to be here.

Today morning i thought of coming very late under the pritixt that even i was awake; moreover i guess pple will not expect us to be here on time as well. However I was ready, as anyother day, and didnt want to stay home just to be late. Even though its the working day i think people will be only 50% productive today; then why not the company declares today a holiday? worried of the work? when things are pressing we anyhow stay late nights/ work on the weekends (so the work wouldnt really suffer)

Bandh....

The big party wants to proove people have faith in them and so called for a bandh today and tomorrow.

The roads are all empty, i havent touched the brake at all, infact i started 15 min late and reached 15 min early to the office. Wow! I remember an incident from my childhood wherein telugu class we all said we are happy for the bandh... things are soooo smooth/ cool. To this my teacher (Somanna sir) responded: "There are many people who make their living from the public; like autorickshaw, kooli, masons, busses agents etc. They all loose their living because of this bandh. You and i are happy but their is other side of the coin aswell which we generally ignore to see." isnt it true? ofcourse it is!

While coming i could see atleast one police vehicle for every 400 meters. Atleast 6-10 constables at every vehiche waiting for instructions. As i see/ understand the most important thing is life. Here,  atleast in India a person is very important to the family and his loss cannot be filled. A lot of care is being taken by the govt/ police; I see how much they value the human life.

btw i m against bandhs/ raastha rokos. :)

CHEEEEEEE MLAs!!

This is in the context of the behavior exibited by our leaders at Assembly.

JP is my favourite leader. I haven't heard a speach from him with a mistake/ him personally pointing at a person/ scolding a person or a grouup of persons/ what ever. I follow him very closely on the news channels and often hear appreciations to him from the common man when they make the phone calls. Some of the ideas from his party/ himself are so thought provoking and revolutionary. As the context has come let me cite some examples.

TTD had organized a meeting for ideas to clean up the 7 hills from plastic and keep it hyginic. The so called BIG political parties started poiniting mistakes.. "so and so comission had recomended something and ur govt didnt do it.. its because u dont want the place to be developed.. ur leader is at fault." Immediately the other one took over the mic and started shouting the first partys mistakes and hence they are not eligible to question them. WOW! see the logic. "You doing the mistake certifies me to do another and hence u cannot question me back". isn't it fentastic? Now JP party interrupted and said "lets not scold each other. My points are as follows. Lets make every step of Tirumala an auspicious place, may be by putting idols at various points and people will automatically get aware and stop throwing the garbage. Instead of concentrating on how to clean the garbage, lets see how we can stop it at the first place". The TTD chairman shook his head in agreement and the memebers smiled showing their acceptance.

There are many such cases i can narrate... Even on the separate state he was very clear on his stand and explained the real impact on the common man if at all the state is formed. I dont think he should be condemned for it. He is using his right to speach.

The most disgusting thing happend yesturday: The MLAs started breaking the mics, stopping the governer from continueing, beaking the chairs, protesting openly... (Ok this is not the disgusting thing i was referring.. its generally seen around) and JP was very unhappy in the way they approached the problem and expressed his disgust to the press. After his speach one of the BIG party MLA beat him, most importantly his driver also joined in hitting JP; some BIG party MLAs encouraged them.. This is very very bad. You are stopping a person who represents people of a region from expressing himself; and an MLA who swore to go by constituion shuldnt be doing this.

JP was very calm and nice at the interview in a news channel. In this context i express my appreciation to JP for the way he reacted and discontent to the MLA who did the unfortunate act.

Steve Jobs: May god help you

A Post read as follows

London, Feb 17 (IANS) Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs has terminal pancreatic cancer and may live for just six more weeks, a media report said Thursday. The 55-year-old Jobs in January announced that at his request, the board of directors granted him a medical leave of absence so that he could focus on his health.Since then, employees have said Jobs can still be seen at the company's headquarters in California and is also calling all the strategic shots from his home. Now, new pictures have been published in the tabloid National Enquirer, which suggest things may be worse for the the man behind the iPod, iPhone and iPad.The report said Jobs is stricken with pancreatic cancer and may have just six weeks to live.

I wish some miracle to happen and he survives the disease.

cricket.. cricket.. cricket..

people are dying around cricket... yest i read some 300 cr rupees of betting is estimated around this game in india. The cricketers are actively participating in all telivision advertisements to the extent possible.. kids, youth or to be more accurate all hyderabadies are flocking onto the grounds to play cricket... all colleagues/ friends/ relatives/ news papers/ magazines/ editorials/ hard talks on TV etc etc are all talking about one game: cricket. Even CWG games (inspite of the scams around it) didnt gather somuch of fuss around... cricket is like god in India.

It seems like we have only one game in this world.. and I fell if at all india wins the world cup this time...  it seems like nuclearbomb hit Hiroshima and nagasaki of japan. The victory will sweep off all other games and i guess for the next 1000 years it will be only cricket in our minds/ grounds/ what not.

I remember a lesson from my 6th standard.. in which he tells if left leg/ right hand only grows... then its not seen as growth but as disease.. arent we getting into a similar scene now?

a poem i remember

నీటి లోని మొసలి మిగిలి ఏనుగు పట్టు,
బయట కుక్క చేత భంగ పడును,
స్థాన బలిమి కాని తన బలిమి కాదయా,
విశ్వదాభి రామ వినురవేమ.

People with no wisdom

I often hear this word at my home when the servant maid talks to my mother "If at all i was learned i would not have done it.. i would have had been more wiser". But what are the learned pple really doing? before that what am i talking about? let me explain.
 * * *
The story has started off with previous elections in Andhra Pradesh when Chiranjeevi entered the politics. People were like "My dream came true... I am living for this moment only... only chiru can change the world... I feel soooo lucky... awesome... enchanted... blessed" and what not. I could feel their enthu and see sparks in their eyes. They were more like un-stoppable... as if they are seeing god come down all the way from the heaven to bless them.

These people are not somebody small... there were the colleagues, team leads, project leads/ managers, coordinators etc etc.. They were all at-least graduates with experience btw 6-12 years. I was surprised: whats making them so die hard for him? the answer i got was: He is a great actor! Havent you seen his movie Tagore? He is the guy to bring in ACF(anti corruption force). He will change the state fully. Wow! what an analysis? you have seen him acting good on the screen and so evaluate that he can rule you well. Fantastiic! I remember incidents when questioned they challenged back "I bet he will be the next CM and he will change the state!!" again how can u say? lets leave it i am tired by now..

Infact i remember hordings comparing chiru with obama. Now what happend? He changed; the party is dissolved with in 3 years of establishment. I dont find fault with this.... any thing can happen with a political party and they ar free to take any decision they want. All i m angry at is: being learned people how did these guys opt to vote for him? Why couldnt they relalize that acting and ruling the state are two different un-related entities? Whats the point in being learned... whats the point in having the intellect/ wisdom to judge things when you cannot use it at the right place?

I remember a famous saying in telugu:
చదువుకున్నవాడి కంటే చాకలడు మేలు (A dhobi is better than a learned person) doesn't it fit the contest?

Adios,

When let go things...

Let's face it. Many of us have latched on to people and things that have hurt us, angered us, made us sad  and caused us stress. We tell ourselves that it doesn't make sense a thousand times over. But still come up with that 'one more' reason (read, excuse) to hold on.

In turn, they continue to clutter our lives, making us choke to the extent that our daily activities begin to get affected. In this futile attempt to hold on, we forget that letting go is not just liberating (yup, it takes that big load off your chest and you go, "Whew, I have done it!") but also boosts health and happiness.

As Swiss poet, novelist and painter, Hermann Hesse once said, "Some of us think holding on makes us strong, but sometimes it is letting go." This new year, read on to know when you should muster up that courage and let go to welcome a whole new life.

1. When something or someone that should give you happiness gives you grief.

Whether it's a family heirloom sofa that sticks into your derriere every time you sit on it or a person whom you have expected happiness from gives you nothing but pain, it's clearly time to let go.

Somewhere between our conditioning to make things work as much and for as long as possible and an unthinking discarding of whatever doesn't work the first time round, there is a middle path-when your head and heart both begin to say, 'Hello, why exactly are you going on with this!' and you know it's simply time to let go.

2. When someone hurts you.

When a relationship is mentally and/or physically abusive, the first resort should never be to bear it, but to seek remedy. If counselling works, great; if it doesn't, it's clearly time to move on. Don't try to find reasons and excuses: he was a good person, he had a fine core once: if it's not showing up for any length of time, it's time to let go. Nothing-not your love, nor your children's future, is worth the warping of mind, body and soul that mental and physical violence cause.

3. When something or someone has not really been part of your life for a length of time.

For things, they say, throw away anything you haven't used in six months. If you are a hoarder, increase that to two years, maybe. But after that, bin it. For people and relationships, it depends: if you have been actively trying to keep a relationship going, with no response or improvement in the positive aspects of the relationship, be it with family or friends or colleagues-stop. It's time for the deep freezer.

4. When something or someone is causing you to be dysfunctional in daily, normal life.

You can't work because your mother/father/sister/brother/partner/friend is dominating your life and your decisions, or interfering so much in the kind of personality you are, or in the kind of things you want to do, that you find it hard to be yourself, to be normal. If you have to constantly work against being yourself and always sacrifice on how you want to lead your life, it's time you scratched those names out as far as possible from your list of priorities.

Says Dr Jitendra Nagpal, consultant psychiatrist, VIMHANS and Moolchand MedcityNew Delhi, "An increasing level of criticism, impatience, intolerance, unresponsiveness, callousness and jealousy are signs that you need to reprioritise.

Constant indifference, a desensitisation to love and the thought that you're getting a raw deal tell you it may be time to let go."

5. When something or someone is beyond any reasonable control.

It could range from a pet that needs to be put to sleep, to a boyfriend/girlfriend who isoverpossessive or unfaithful, or a job or colleague that gives you unending grief-rather than being full of negativity about the situation, it's best to end it.

"There's no point in living with 'baggage', some make-believe past glory and accommodating it into your life," says Nagpal. There are some situations you just can't help. Accept it and go forward. Understand that sometimes you have to live with some emptiness inside you, but the pain will cease with time. Dr Vivek Benegal, additional professor of psychiatry, NIMHANS, Bengaluru, says, "It's extremely important to let go when you lose someone and move on, or else you would risk mummifying the person's memory leading to prolonged grief."

6. When there's no love, nor need, nor desire.

Emotional commitment keeps most of us afloat, but when that is absent, there is very little that can help you go on. Loveless bonds may go on because they are convenient, but rather than enriching us, they only drain and drag us down. In such a situation, nothing works like letting go.

However, even as you must be open to letting go whenever required, remember you are the best person to analyse if you've reached a situation when you truly need to let go and not do it just for the sake of convenience. "It's always a good idea to talk to a friend or family member you are close to, before taking a decision," advises Nagpal.
